Nowadays, more people prefer this style because it delivers several amazing benefits such as simplicity, elegance and cleanliness. If you are new to the minimalist world, it is a crucial step to learn and understand its fundamentals. So, this content will help you familiarize all essential facts to know about minimalist design. Minimalist design first arose in the 1950s and 60s as response to an increasingly noisy, technologically-advancing culture. Suddenly simplicity, clean lines, and oodles of white space began to appear more and more in visual art, architecture and graphic design. As they are often hard to develop, they are also a great challenge for designers, as boiling down a composition to its core constituent parts is imperative in creating successful minimalist designs.
Tips to Design Minimalist Spaces
Want to learn more about minimalist graphic design or find templates to jumpstart projects? Here, we’ve put together a guide on how to do minimal design right with some best practices, examples, and tips for creating a modern feel. Choosing a neutral colour palette that uses whites, greys, and earth-coloured tones for a classic backdrop will help give your home a minimalist feel. This doesn’t mean you have to go monochromatic – in fact, a good rule of thumb is to combine colours that occur in nature and choose two or three colours at most. You could have one colour as the dominant base, a secondary colour layered on top of that, and a third colour reserved for accents. Minimalist design has continued to grow in popularity throughout the last century, but for every fan there is a maximalist critic who dismisses it as boring or sterile, lacking in imagination and heart.
When it comes to designing actual animated effects, it’s recommended that you keep them simple. Simple micro animations and transitions won’t distract your visitors and will serve their purpose. Ideally, you should rely on one font family, two at the most. If you decide to use two fonts, you will need to create a visual hierarchy for them.
Much like how we expect expensive stores to not be jammed with merchandise, our brains see minimalism as luxurious, curated and selective. Minimalist graphic design effectively creates clean, uncluttered designs that are visually appealing and easy to understand. Perhaps not as modern as some of our other examples, but no less minimalist, the genuinely iconic Coca-Cola logo, designed by Turner Duckworth, is a simple, bold, and classic example of minimalist logo design. If your message is unnecessarily weighed down with flowery language, then it doesn’t matter how minimalist the design looks; it won’t be cohesive because it won’t work as a minimalist design. Stefano Greco gives us another amazing minimalist website example of fashion websites that use minimalism to accentuate their website.

In the contemporary art and design landscape, minimalist design has gained prominence as a revered aesthetic that embraces simplicity, functionality, and an elegant sense of restraint. Current world views on minimalist design emphasize its ability to create spaces that exude calm, decluttered serenity amidst the complexities of modern life. In a minimalist design, an empty space works just like a form of a design element as accessories and furniture. Thus, it is favorable to open layouts that feature straight and clean lines and even simple forms.
The palette is mostly monochromatic and color is used as an accent,” says Sharon Blaustein, principal designer at B Interior LLC. The use of a cohesive, more neutral color palette will be essential to keep a minimalist interior design. You can choose from tan, blacks, whites, beiges, greys and other neutral tones.
For example, one font could be used for headings while the other could be used for body (paragraph) text. You should also make sure that your two font families work together. As for Brown, he explains that his biggest challenge is knowing when to stop designing or adding to the space. "If the space functions well, is simple in its composition without being overly stimulating, you know that you are finished," he says.

This outfit appears to be inspired by the 2010 Barbie Fashionistas Sweetie Doll. Barbie resembles a youthful fair-skinned woman, with smooth blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail that reaches her back and bangs that are swooped to the right. She has long eyelashes and smokey black eye shadow that accentuate her big azure blue eyes, as well as a coat of pastel pink lipstick. For all her beauty and talent, Barbie is shockingly down-to-earth. She considers everyone her friend, and if there's one thing Barbie is about, it's making sure her friends are happy.

She, Tennis-Playing Robot, and Wilfred the Fish don't really know each other that well. Grace is a young adult woman with a dark complexion, dark-brown hair slightly darker than chestnut brown, and dark brown eyes. She is the first female Dreamhouse character to ever wear dark red lipstick instead of light pink lipstick.
Is production for Barbie over?
Storylines and plot points usually revolve around different situations happening to the main characters. The series is set in a fictional version of Malibu, California, where all of its inhabitants are dolls. The dolls behave like humans, though a number of the show's gags rely on their doll-like nature. The series centers on the life of Barbie, her friends, her siblings, her boyfriend Ken, and a number of pets.

Margot Robbie has some tiny, plastic shoes to fill, but with director Greta Gerwig paving her dream-house driveway, Barbie seems less likely to stumble in those stilettos. Variety confirmed on July 9, 2021 that Little Women director Gerwig will helm the live-action Barbie film, with Robbie attached as Mattel's size-zero superstar. Under Gerwig's stewardship, the blonde icon who's juggled careers as a president, doctor, teacher, fashion designer, and Olympic athlete will be forced to confront her feminist critics. Barbie is the older sister of Skipper, Stacie, and Chelsea. In earlier seasons she appeared to annoy Skipper, however, the two became close after working together at The Barbie Boutique. She and Stacie don't always see eye to eye, especially when it comes to activities such as Jet Skiing.
All this, however, doesn't stop her from being irrepressibly kindhearted, nor does it grant her immunity to the wacky hijinks of Malibu. Grace appears one more time in the LITDH series where she and Barbie find out there is no one in Malibu with her same interests, much to Grace's disappointment. Grace herself finds a way out to help people get more connected to sciences and be fascinated in the arts of anything that has to do with chemistry or physics.

Taffy™ The pampered pooch of Barbie isn’t just fond of the finer things like filet mignon and doggy spas, but also has a sophisticated taste for art and literature. She loves nothing more than a good chew toy, classical music and a nice long belly rub. Ryan™ Like his twin sister, Raquelle, Ryan knows he’s hot. He loves showing off his plastic abs and bad boy ’tude. But this wanna-be musician doesn’t want to see Barbie fail (like his sis does); instead he dreams of taking her out on a date. The word was first suggested by tumblr user TheKyan on July 10th 2012 as a possible term for fans of the show.
Following this, Barbie-LifeInTheDreamhouse made it "official". Storyboarding is done on a freelance basis while it is currently unknown as to how the episodes are written. Mattel executive David Wiebe has written at least two episodes - Happy Birthday Chelsea and Primp My Ride. Dolls have been released of all of the adult cast except for Ryan. They either come as a singular normal doll, in a two-pack, or a doll that can talk back to you. Midge was joined the cast in season 3, Summer joined in season 4, and Grace joined the cast in season 6.
Like his twin sister Raquelle, the show's status quo demands that Ryan fails every time, although he's lovable anyway. Fashionable, witty, and a long-suffering Straight Man. The series has gathered a following on various sites around the internet, most notably Tumblr, whose members are collectively referred to as Dreamhousers.
Barbie's personality is that of a sparklingly cheerful girl who's done, and is good at, everything, to the point of comedy. Her boyfriend Ken is a good-natured klutz who's almost as perky as Barbie, if nowhere near as skilled. She lives with her three younger sisters, parents nowhere in sight, and her three hyperintelligent pets. Her friends, Nikki, Teresa, Midge and Summer often come over to hang out.
She also sports a purple sparkly knee-length skirt, and strappy low-heeled heels for shoes with beige straps and the shoes are light brown the color of a type of wood. Midge joined the main cast in the fifth episode of season three, Summer joined in the first episode of season four, and Grace joined in the sixteenth episode of season six. The first row of characters contains the main characters of the show. The second row, if present, contains recurring or one-off characters that are not considered part of the main cast. Smart, sassy, and totally fun to be around, Nikki is a “what you see is what you get” kind of girl. To her friends she’s a softy, but if someone crosses one of her dolls, they’ll discover a dose of her wicked wit.

The Senate has from almost its beginning imparted to the sergeant at arms and doorkeeper various administrative and supervisory responsibilities. In 1854 the Senate created the position of Senate postmaster, who operated out of the sergeant at arms’s office. Today the Senate Post Office continues to operate under supervision of the sergeant at arms. The sergeant at arms became the Senate’s wagon master and keeper of the Senate stables.

"Last Saturday, out-of-touch politicians sent tens of billions of your taxpayer dollars to Ukraine and rubbed it in our faces," said Rep. Byron Donalds. "Members of Congress should never wave the flag of another nation on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. I proudly stand with Rep. Cammack to ensure that disgraceful acts like this never occur again. Our government must put the American people first." Since the 19th century, the sergeant at arms has assisted Senate offices with communications. When communication was chiefly by paper, the sergeant at arms supervised the Senate Folding Room.

"I am proud to join my colleagues as a cosponsor of the American Flag Resolution," said Rep. Van Drew. "Last year, Democrats objected to saying the Pledge of Allegiance before committee hearings," said Rep. Russell Fry. "Now, they wave Ukrainian flags on the House floor. Elected leaders that represent the United States should take pride in showing patriotism for their own country, but unfortunately Democrats would rather show support for other countries than their own." The sergeant at arms is also responsible for ensuring the safety and security of members of Congress, the congressional staff, visiting dignitaries, and tourists. Toward this end, the sergeant at arms works in concert with the Senate sergeant at arms and the Architect of the Capitol.

This principle ensures that the House conducts business in a consistent and reliable way. The lawyers and clerks in the Office of the Parliamentarian compile the parliamentary precedents that guide the House on questions of legislative procedure. The sergeant at arms has the duty of making the important decisions under his/her power, while the deputy sergeant at arms often executes the decisions. In addition to serving on the Capitol Police Board, the sergeant at arms served with the Senate sergeant at arms and the Architect of the Capitol on the Capitol Guide Board.
US Congress
In the 1970s and 1980s, the tools changed to fax machines, computers, copiers, and automated systems. On April 7, 1789, the Senate created the position of doorkeeper and appointed James T. Mathers, a former doorkeeper for the Continental Congress, to the position. Vice President John Adams urged the Senate to appoint a sergeant at arms with the title of “Usher of the Black Rod,” as such officer was styled in the British House of Lords. The Parliamentarian of the House is the authoritative source on legislative proceedings in the House. An appointed officer who serves as a nonpartisan adviser to members, the Parliamentarian's chief duty is to rule on procedure and to advise the House chamber's presiding officer.
The commitment of the House to stand by its procedural decisions requires rigor concerning what constitutes precedent. In the parliamentary context, the term does not refer to a mere instance in which something occurred or was suffered; rather, it refers to a decision or order actually disposing of a question of order. The Parliamentarian is appointed by the Speaker without regard to political affiliation. The Office of the Parliamentarian, and its subsidiary Office of Compilation of Precedents, comprise lawyers and clerks who provide nonpartisan assistance on legislative and parliamentary procedure to the Speaker, presiding officers, and the House. The sergeant at arms of the United States House of Representatives is an officer of the House with law enforcement, protocol, and administrative responsibilities. The sergeant at arms is elected at the beginning of each Congress by the membership of the House.

These organizations provide a range of services, from guidance on law and legislative proceedings to relations with foreign governments. For the longer term, the Parliamentarian compiles the most salient precedents for formal, scholarly publication. These precedents presently fill 27 volumes with 6 indices, comprising thousands of decisions over the years of parliamentary practice in the House. The Office is currently publishing an updated series of precedents, which began in 2018 with the publication of Volume One, and then Volume Two published in October 2019. For daily sessions of the House, the sergeant at arms carries the silver and ebony mace of the United States House of Representatives in front of the speaker in procession to the rostrum. When the House is in session, the mace stands on a pedestal to the speaker's own right.
The Mace of the United States House of Representatives,[1] also called the Mace of the Republic, is a ceremonial mace and one of the oldest symbols of the United States government. It symbolizes the governmental authority of the United States, and more specifically, the legislative authority of the House of Representatives. Irving was one of four top security officials on the Capitol Police Board responsible for protecting the Capitol and has been heavily criticized for not adequately preparing for Jan. 6. To bridge the span between a digest of decisions and formally published precedents, the Parliamentarian also publishes House Practice, a condensed compilation of procedures of current application. The Office of the Parliamentarian provides the House with nonpartisan guidance on parliamentary rules and procedures. A Parliamentarian has been appointed by the Speaker, without regard to political affiliation, in every Congress since 1927.
According to some House Democrats, all the Republican outrage over the flag-waving episode is just sour grapes. Democrats are celebrating his total capitulation with no victory for securing our border,” wrote Massie, who has been sharply critical of his fellow Republican and supports a potential effort to oust him from the speakership led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. The outrage has sparked debates about decorum, prompted eye rolls from some Democrats and given new meaning to the concept of political flag-waving. As the Senate originally conducted its sessions behind closed doors, the primary responsibility for the doorkeeper was to secure the Chamber.
In 1795, when the sessions were opened to the public, the doorkeeper controlled access to the Senate and maintained order in the Senate Chamber and in the galleries. The Office of the Law Revision Counsel prepares and publishes the United States Code, which is a consolidation and codification by subject matter of the general and permanent laws of the United States. In late 2021, President Joe Biden signed a bill into law that lets the Capitol Police chief ask for National Guard help without the approval of the Capitol Police Board. The Parliamentarian also prepares the brochure entitled How Our Laws Are Made for public distribution.
By the 1950s, the sergeant at arms provided enough services that the folding room was renamed the Senate Service Department. As technologies advanced, so too did the responsibilities of the sergeant at arms. When telephones were installed in the Capitol in the late 19th century the sergeant at arms operated, jointly with the clerk of the House, the U.S. In the mid-1900s, the office started providing telephones, typewriters, mimeographs, and dictaphones to Senate offices.
That problem played out last year in a Senate hearing reviewing the attack when Irving and Steven Sund, the Capitol Police chief during the insurrection, gave conflicting accounts on when Sund asked Irving — and Irving’s counterpart in the Senate, Michael Stenger — for the National Guard to help during the attack. Paul D. Irving, the former House sergeant-at-arms who resigned the day after the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, recently provided testimony to the select committee investigating the Capitol attack, according to two sources familiar with the matter. Duties include overseeing the House floor and galleries, the House Appointments Desk, the House garages and parking lots, as well as administering all staff identification badges. These are indicated with "(part)." Communities within the City of Los Angeles are indicated with "(LA)". Los Angeles is home to dozens of amazing progressive organizations, including powerful and grassroots civil rights, human rights, social justice groups.
The Sergeant at Arms reviews and implements all issues relating to the safety and security of Members of Congress and the Capitol complex. Capitol Police and various intelligence agencies to assess threats against Members of Congress and the Capitol complex. The parliamentary law of the House of Representatives emanates from the Constitution, specifically article I, section 5. These rules include not only the standing rules adopted from Congress to Congress but also Jefferson's Manual. They also include rules enacted as law and special rules adopted from time to time. On this foundation rests a body of precedent established by decisions of presiding officers on actual parliamentary questions or by long custom and tradition.
In addition to the members and their staffs, there are many other individuals working for the House of Representatives. The staff of the officers, officials and other organization all work to support the legislative work of the member and committee offices. The overarching role of the Office of the Parliamentarian is to strive for consistency in parliamentary analysis by attempting to apply pertinent precedent to each procedural question. In resolving questions of order, the Speaker and other presiding officers of the House adhere to the jurisprudential principle of stare decisis—a commitment to stand by earlier decisions. This fidelity to precedent promotes analytic consistency and procedural transparency, and thereby fosters legitimacy in parliamentary practice. The Parliamentarian achieves consistency by fidelity to precedent, and achieves transparency through publication of the precedents.
These three officials, along with the chief of the Capitol Police ex officio, comprise the Capitol Police Board. Other Democrats pointed out that symbols of foreign nations, especially American allies, can be seen throughout the Capitol. Democratic Rep. Seth Magaziner of Rhode Island, who helped distribute the Ukrainian flags on the floor over the weekend, cited the portrait of the Marquis de Lafayette that hangs in the House chamber. There’s a bust of Winston Churchill in the building, and many members, including Cammack, have hung the Israeli flag outside their House offices since the war with Hamas broke out last year, Magaziner noted.

House rules state that members may not engage in disorderly or disruptive conduct. While the rules bar things like smoking or wearing nonreligious headdresses or hats, waving a mini flag is not explicitly mentioned.

As chief law enforcement and protocol officer, the sergeant at arms enforces all rules of the Senate—its Standing Rules, Standing Orders, Rules for the Regulation of the Senate Wing, and Rules for Impeachment Trials—and coordinates all official events and visits for the Senate. This includes escorting the president, other heads of state, and official guests while they attend official functions in the Capitol. As the Senate’s chief law enforcement officer, the sergeant at arms can compel senators to come to the Senate Chamber to establish a quorum. In addition, the sergeant at arms supervises the Senate wing of the Capitol, maintaining security in the Capitol and in all the Senate buildings and controlling access to the Senate Chamber and galleries. The sergeant at arms serves the Senate as its chief law enforcement and protocol officer and is the administrative manager for a host of support services in the Senate.
“If there is one room in our country that should only have the American flag present, it is this room,” continued Cammack, who voted against the aid for Ukraine. Today the Office of the Senate Sergeant at Arms includes a chief information officer to meet the Senate’s technology and communications needs. Appointed officials include a General Counsel, Historian, Inspector General, and Parliamentarian. Their duties are prescribed both by law and Rule II of the Rules of the House of Representatives.

Later, when the Senate purchased its first automobile in 1913—used by the vice president—the sergeant at arms assumed responsibility for automobile leasing and maintenance, traffic control, and parking around the Capitol. William McFarland is an American law enforcement officer and security official who serves as the current Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives, after having been appointed by Speaker Kevin McCarthy on January 7, 2023. In the 19th century the sergeant at arms was granted greater responsibility over law enforcement on Capitol grounds. In 1867 Congress passed a statute giving the sergeants at arms of the House and Senate authority to appoint the members of the Capitol Police. In addition, the same law authorized the sergeants at arms to make regulations to preserve the peace and protect the Capitol and the public property within, including the power to make arrests of anyone violating those rules. In 1873 Congress created the Capitol Police Board, on which sat the Senate and House sergeants at arms and who also rotated as chairman.
A tide of blue and yellow washed over the House during the vote, as dozens of Democrats held up mini Ukrainian flags. Others tucked them in their breast pockets, while New Jersey Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. draped a larger version over his shoulders like a cape. Republicans were split roughly down the middle on Saturday’s vote to provide Ukraine with $60.8 billion in aid, but in the aftermath, Speaker Mike Johnson tried to project unity on at least one aspect of the ordeal. “The intelligence was not that there would be a coordinated assault on the Capitol, nor was that contemplated in any of the interagency discussions that I attended in the days before the attack,” Irving said. There was a substantial delay in the National Guard being deployed to quell the pro-Donald Trump rioters, a problem that drew particular scrutiny on the inefficient way the board functioned in that scenario.

Each local school district is run by an area superintendent and is headquartered within the district. 8035 on Saturday, April 20, lawmakers waved the flag of Ukraine on the floor of the House of Representatives, eliciting frustration from Rep. Cammack and colleagues. The prohibition shall apply to a flag of a foreign nation regardless of the size of the flag. Exceptions include a flag of a foreign nation worn as a lapel pin by a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner, and the depiction of a flag of a foreign nation used as part of an exhibit during a speech or debate under the rules of the House of Representatives. The Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives is responsible for enforcement of the prohibition.
LAUSD is governed by a seven-member Board of Education, which appoints a superintendent, who runs the daily operations of the district. Members of the board are elected directly by voters from separate districts that encompass communities that the LAUSD serves, as indicated in the map below. It includes member of the Los Angeles City Council, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, California State Assembly, California State Senate, United States House of Representatives, and Los Angeles citywide officials. “Watching American representatives pass out & wave Ukrainian flags in the United States House of Representatives chamber infuriated me,” Cammack wrote on the social media platform X.

Previous officers included an elected Doorkeeper and Postmaster, which the House folded into the Chief Administrative Officer's position in 1995. For daily sessions of the House, the Sergeant at Arms carries the silver and ebony mace of the House in front of the Speaker, in procession to the rostrum. When the House is in session, the mace stands on a cylindrical pedestal of green marble to the Speaker's right. When the House is in committee, it is moved to a lowered position on a pedestal next to the Sergeant at Arms' desk, more or less out of sight.[7] Thus, members entering the chamber know immediately whether the House is in session or in committee.
Those fashion statements were meant to signal their support for sending military aid to the war-torn country, as the issue became increasingly contentious. “To all the [R]epublicans who just booed me and my colleagues on the House floor for Ukraine flags here’s my answer — screw [Vladimir P]utin and Slava Ukraini! Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie seized on the moment to attack Johnson, posting a shaky video to his social media showing the Democratic side of the chamber erupting.
When the body resolves itself into a Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union, the sergeant at arms moves the mace to a lowered position, more or less out of sight. In accordance with the Rules of the House, on the rare occasions when a member becomes unruly, the sergeant at arms, on order of the speaker, lifts the mace from its pedestal and presents it before the offenders, thereby restoring order. “I wish the small but vocal group of House Republicans who chose to vote with Putin were as outraged by the Russian army targeting innocent civilians, schools and hospitals as they are about members of Congress holding the flags of our nation’s ally,” Magaziner said in a written statement. Florida Republican Rep. Kat Cammack vowed to draft legislation that would ban the display of foreign flags on the House floor. That measure could be introduced as early as this week, according to a spokesperson, who did not provide details on the exact form it would take.
This board oversaw the Capitol Guide Service, which provided tours of the Capitol to visitors and special services to tourists. LA City is governed by a Mayor and a 15 person City Council, who are elected from geographic districts depicted in the map below. After Russian forces invaded Ukraine in 2022, some House members wore blue and yellow to the State of the Union or attached a Ukrainian pin to their lapels.

The multi-million dollar renovated and expanded Carnival cruise terminal was reopened on February 10, 2018. The berth was also electrified (equipped with shoreside electrical power). Parking is USD 15 per day (Port Authority prices are subject to change).
After check in, we were told to get back on a bus to drive the few hundred feet to board the ship. If you are sailing out of Los Angeles and your first port is Cabo San Lucas, the cruise line would arrange a last-minute flight to Cabo. This would enable you to join the ship at the first port.
Channel depth (53 ft / 16 m) allows access to the world's largest container ships, tankers and bulk cargo carriers. The port has a total of 23 cargo terminals (270 deepwater berths), 9 container terminals (with 77 gantry cranes) and on-site railway system (total length 182 km / 113 mi). In 2012 was completed a dredging project for deepening the main shipping channel to the current 16 m (53 ft). With its arrival in November 2013, the boxship CMA CGM Corte Real made a new North American record for call port cargo handling (10,000+ TEU moves).
Imports increased 20,3% (376,807 TEUs), exports 24,1% (138,602 TEUs), empty containers 20,8% (237,672 TEUs). The cargo port's previous monthly record (752,188 TEUs) was set in June 2018. In November 2021 CMA-CGM signed an agreement for the acquisition of 90% stake in FMS Terminal (Fenix Marine Services/operated under concession thru 2043) for USD 2,3 billion (EUR 2B). FMS is the Port's 3rd-largest terminal by annual TEU capacity (~2,5 million).
Larger vessels dock here and take the space of two ships. If you are close enough to drive to the cruise terminal, bringing your own car will save you the cost of airfare! If you have stayed overnight at a hotel, some offer discounted parking rates for cruise guests.
Taxi prices can vary but expect to pay at least USD 65 or more if traveling from LAX International Airport to the Long Beach Cruise terminal.
